Description In early 1957 a private higher technical learning institution "Perguruan Tinggi Teknik 10 Nopember"
was founded by a foundation "Yayasan Perguruan
Tinggi Teknik 10 Nopember" chaired by a medical
doctor, dr. Angka Nitisastro. The name "10 Nopember" refers to10th November 1945, the
National Heroes Day.
On 10th November 1957 the First President of the
Republic of Indonesia, Ir. Soekarno, officially inaugurated this higher learning institution. In 1960
this private institution became a public institution
"Institut Teknologi 10 Nopember Surabaya" consisting of five study programmes namely: Civil,
Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical Engineering and
Naval Architecture Engineering. Since then ITS has
been steadily developing and becomes one of the
leading universities in science and technology in the country.
